Positive Things We’ve Been Doing During Lockdown

In times like these, it can be difficult to find something positive. Life is different and no one can really say when things will get back to normal. However, we’ve been using the extra time to do things we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise – and it’s had huge benefits.

Whilst we really wish we weren’t experiencing a lockdown, we are grateful for the opportunity it’s given us to work on the following four things:

Reconnecting with our client base

We love talking to our clients, and now we’re speaking to them more than ever before. In such unprecedented times, it’s important to take care of those you’re connected with. You never know who is struggling. That’s why we ask our clients how they’re doing, are empathetic if they’re stressed and provide advice where we can. This isn’t even necessarily related to Macs – it can be guidance on working from home, for example.

This situation has impacted everyone, and we ourselves now have the challenge of home-schooling. It’s taking us a little more time to speak to all our clients but please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us – we’re always at the end of the phone.

Spending quality family time

Family’s really important to us. However, our kids are now at the age where we’re driving them to activities and watching from the sides. Obviously, socialising with their friends is no longer an option, but there is the opportunity for us to exercise once a day as a family. Thankfully, we live near the countryside and can keep in line with current government guidelines on social distancing.

Going for runs or family bike rides mean we’re getting valuable quality time together. Plus, because going outside is now such a precious thing, we realise how much we miss exercising outdoors. We like the gym but being active on a warm spring evening is great for both our physical and mental health.

Having the time to work on our business

‘What’s the opportunity?’ is something we’ve found ourselves asking. Whilst we are still busy fulfilling customer orders, we’re taking advantage of the lockdown and finally spending some time to work on our business. 2019 was very busy for us, and we got to a stage where we were mostly reacting.

Now, we have the time to initiate conversations with our clients, and spend longer talking to them. We’re getting all our processes in line so, when the pandemic calms down, we’ll be in a much stronger position to move forward.

Holding ourselves accountable

When the sun is shining, and the children are enjoying themselves playing, it’s so tempting to go outside and join in the fun. However, having worked from home for half a decade, we know the importance of discipline and routine. Something that keeps us on track is a work diary. Make a note of the tasks you do each hour. You’ll quickly find out if you are drifting. But, by having to write something down and keeping an eye on your productivity, you’ll keep yourself accountable.

Whilst we could easily watch everything on Netflix, we’re making the most of the situation. Sure, we all wish this just wasn’t happening but, at the end of the day, it does present an opportunity – and you shouldn’t let it pass. When life returns to normal, you won’t have the excuse of not having enough time for not getting things done…

So, those are our four positive things we’ve found during this challenging period. We’d love to know what you’ve been doing or have discovered. Why not give us a call on 01952 876928 or contact us via this page?
