Apple recently announced their September Special Event alongside a vibrant backlit logo. ‘It’s Glowtime’ will be dropping on 9th September 2024, and while this reference appears to be related to Siri’s new interface and Apple Intelligence, we expect to see a huge focus on hardware – specifically, iPhones.
It’s also been suggested that we may see new arrivals in the Apple Watch, iPad, and AirPod lines. Join us as we explore exactly what products may be announced.
iPhones
It’s anticipated that the new iPhone 16 range will dominate the event, with four fresh devices on the cards: standard, Plus, Pro, and Max. The iPhone 16 is rumoured to have a 6.1” display, A17 processor, 8GB RAM, and Action button – with the Plus version being identical apart from a larger 6.7” screen.
As for the Pro, it’s predicted we’ll see:
- 6.3” display
- An upgrade to the A18 processor (set to support Apple Intelligence in iOS 18)
- 48Mp ultrawide lens
- Touch-sensitive camera control located on the side
- Bigger ‘stacked’ battery
The Max may instead be called the ‘Ultra’ and be similar to the Pro, with the only additional features being a super telephoto camera and the largest display of the range at 6.9 inches.
Apple Watches
With the Apple Watch, it’s not just one range that’s predicted to be upgraded – it’s three. A hatrick of Apple Watch 10, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3 are all anticipated. The Apple Watch 10 will apparently feature a bigger screen and thinner body, along with a processor that works in tandem with AI.
Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a S10 SiP processor, fresh Digital Crown with touch-sensitive elements, and light sensors. Plus, it’ll be wrapped up in a new ‘black/dark’ colour. Finally, the Apple Watch SE3 is expected to have a S9 SiP processor, as well as 41/45mm display sizes.
iPads
Historically, these have arrived in September, but the iPad Air and iPad Pro saw a long-awaited upgrade earlier this year, so they’re not expected. It’s suggested that we may see a new iPad mini (7th generation) and iPad (11th generation) – though the rumour mill is not as convinced.
When they do arrive, both are anticipated to come equipped with the A16 processor and more storage space. Other than this, there won’t be any other changes on the cards. However, the 11th generation iPad could support the 2nd generation Apple Pencil and add Face ID. The 7th generation iPad mini may also have a smart connector, so it can link up to a keyboard, like the iPad Pro, as well as a potential OLED panel display.
AirPods
We may see updates to the AirPods range too. This includes a completely fresh model – AirPods Lite – which would be a cheaper version and has already been rumoured for years.
AirPods Max may also be updated as they haven’t been refreshed for over three years now – although the changes appear to be quite minimal, with new colour options, USB-C capabilities, and a H2 processor.
