From the Vision Pro to iOS 18 – 2024 has already delivered a whole host of new Apple products and updates. So what else can we expect in 2024?
The next generation iPhone and Apple Watch are imminent – but for many it’s all eyes on Mac, as users eagerly wait to see when the M4 chip will grace their devices. Join us as we cover the latest and greatest releases of 2024 with a look at what’s still to come…
2024 so far
In February, Apple broke the seal on a new product category for the first time since the Apple Watch. Of course, we’re talking about the VisionPro headset. Key features include the 4K display, Mac viewing option, and seamless transitioning between augmented and virtual reality.
In other news, March saw the 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch MacBook Air models land, both integrated with the M3 chip which is 20% faster and has improved graphics capabilities compared to its predecessor. Other enhancements include Wi-Fi 6E, a fingerprint-resistant coating for the Midnight colour, and microphone improvements.
Updated iPad Pro and iPad Air models stole May’s limelight, with ultra-thin redesigns and better display panels for Pro, and expanded sizes, making 11- and 13-inch models now available for Air. Not forgetting that the Pro packs a brand new M4 chip, but more on that shortly…
New iPhone models & Apple Watch’s 10th birthday
The iPhone 16 lineup is set for September. Look out for the multi-functional Action button on both models (not just on the Pro like the previous model), as well as a Capture button and vertically arranged rear cameras to make videoing in landscape easier and better equipped for spatial video.
Meanwhile it’s the Apple Watch’s 10th anniversary! According to the grapevine, Apple could be about to drop a thinner Apple Watch X with a magnetic band attachment system and new health features, such as blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection.
M4 chip incoming
The rumour mill has turned, and it’s now believed that Apple will roll out its M4 Silicon chip set for every single Mac computer model. That’s great news for current Mac users, but the question is, which models will get it first?
It’s predicted that the M4 chip range will be expanded to include M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra. These upgrades will possess Apple’s most powerful neural engine yet, which enhances the performance of AI-related tasks. The company also recently announce ‘Apple Intelligence’ – an integrated entrance into generative-AI, which is set to include capabilities such as:
- Notifications based on context
- Writing tools and enhancements
- Image generation with “Genmoji”
- Updates to Siri’s AI abilities
The devices which are expected to receive the M4 chip first will be the iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini – which we can expect in late 2024. Will it launch via a surprise October event like Apple did last year with the M3 MacBook Pros and iMacs? Only time will tell.
Meanwhile MacBook Air and Mac Studio models are tipped to receive the M4 chip in mid-2025, while Mac Pro may be later in the year – in line with their respective annual upgrades.
