However, whilst this was welcome news to the Apple community, it’s left many with a tough decision: do you choose a standard base model or a top of the range one that naturally comes with a higher price tag?
It pays to look at the differences of each. On first appearances, the devices are almost identical. They also both have the new Magic Keyboard and Touch Bar. The specifications
Let’s begin by comparing the similarities and differences of these two devices:

RAM and storage
The refreshed 1.4GHz model has remained the same in that it only has 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory. The new 2.0GHz one, however, has been upgraded: 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory to be precise. That’s ultra-fast RAM. Previously, if you had wanted more than 8GB of RAM, you would have had to pay for additional memory.
Before these 13-inch MacBook Pros were released, the lower-end model came with 128GB SSD storage and the higher-end one 256GB. However, both now have double the storage. This means the top of the range device now has 512GB SSD storage. Alongside its 16GB of memory, this will save you a serious amount of money compared to the previous high-end model – which would have needed to be configured, resulting in a lengthy lead time. Now, you get these as standard through next-day delivery.
Processors
If you were to opt for the new model, you’d get the 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor. This is the most recent one, and it’s a fantastic advancement from its predecessor. With the refreshed lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro, the processor is literally the same: the 1.4GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor.
In our opinion, the 10th-generation processor is more than worth its weight in gold. It’s more efficient, plus it’s significantly faster than the refreshed model. In terms of single-core, it’s approximately 30% quicker.
Graphics
Graphics have been improved too for the new 2.0GHz model. It comes with the newer Intel Iris Plus Graphics card, whereas the refreshed 1.4GHz 13-inch device still has the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 card.
Alongside the 10th-generation Intel processor, the Iris Plus Graphics card offers significantly swifter graphics rendering. The graphics performance can be as much as 80% faster than previously. It’s a clear winner!
How to decide on your 13-inch MacBook Pro
Ultimately the 13-inch MacBook Pro you choose depends on your business needs and budget. We’re definitely impressed with the savings that come with the new 2.0GHz model. If you were to upgrade the standard 1.4GHz refreshed device from 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage to 16GB and 512GB, then you’d only be £1.20+VAT per week shy of getting the 2.0GHz device. Therefore, with the improved graphics and processor speeds, going for the higher-end new model really is a no-brainer.
