Prefer a hands-on approach to using your MacBook?
Among the questions you might have when exploring your MacBook leasing options is ‘Is a MacBook Air touchscreen?’ – so, let’s find out!
Does it have a touchscreen?
No, the MacBook Air does not have a touchscreen.
Unlike Apple’s iPad range, the Macs all feature a keyboard and trackpad combination rather than a touchscreen.
The force touch trackpad uses electromagnets and force sensors to detect the level of pressure being applied, providing the user with greater control and creating a more intuitive experience.
Why is there no touchscreen feature on Apple MacBooks?
Apple has been clear on its decision not to include a touchscreen feature on Apple MacBooks, citing user experience and comfort as reasons why.
In an interview with Wired in 2018, Apple’s head of software, Craig Federighi said:
“We really feel the ergonomics of using a Mac are that your hands are rested on a surface, and that lifting your arm up to poke a screen is a pretty fatiguing thing to do,” adding that he’s simply “not into touchscreens”.
Will there be a touchscreen-enabled MacBook in future?
Despite what Federighi said in 2018, multiple sources, including Bloomberg and Vice, have reported that Apple is currently in the process of revamping the MacBook Pro with a touch display, ready for release in late 2026 or early 2027.
Although Apple hasn’t confirmed these plans in an official announcement, it’s thought that a touchscreen MacBook would need to undergo substantial software changes to register finger taps instead of mouse clicks.

What is the spec of a MacBook Air?
If you can’t expect a touchscreen on the MacBook Air (at least not right now anyway), what features do come with the device as standard?
According to Apple, the latest M4 2025 MacBook Air specification includes:
- Apple M4 chip
- 16-core Neural Engine
- 6-inch or 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone
- 12MP Center Stage camera
- MagSafe 3 charging port
- Two Thunderbolt 4 ports
- Support for up to two external displays
- Magic Keyboard with Touch ID
- Force Touch trackpad
- Apple Intelligence
