At Apple’s May Special Event, they unveiled fresh devices and accessories – amongst them, the new 11- and 13-inch iPad Pros. Both have the brand-new M4 processor, an Ultra Retina XDR OLED display, compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro and new Magic Keyboard, and much more.
It’s not just their screen size and price tag that sets them apart. Read on to discover their unique features – and which one is right for your business.
Screen size
Obviously, the 13” device has an extra two inches on the 11” – which makes for 25% extra screen real estate. This is particularly advantageous for those who need to use Split Screen or Stage Manager as there’s more vertical space.
Plus, if you’re looking to use your device for video or photo editing tasks, you’ll likely benefit from the larger screen and Apple Pencil Pro connection abilities.
Weight
The 13-inch iPad Pro’s bigger screen means it also weighs more. At 579 grams (1.28 pounds), it’s over a pound heavier than the 11-inch device, which is 444 grams (0.98 pounds). So, you can expect the 11” iPad Pro to be more portable.
Depth
Something we touched on when Apple announced these devices is that despite the 13-inch being bigger in terms of screen size, it’s slimmer – in fact, at 5.1mm, it’s Apple’s thinnest product ever. However, it’s worth noting that the 11-inch isn’t far behind in terms of depth at 5.3mm, making them both super easy to store.
Battery life
Usually, we’d expect that a larger-screen device would get a more sizable battery – but this isn’t the case with the 13-inch iPad Pro. The 11-inch’s battery is bigger, most likely so the 13” device could be thinner. Given it has a larger battery, the 11-inch’s lifespan will be longer than the 13” – something to consider if you’re making a long-term investment for your business.
Performance
In terms of performance, the 13-inch iPad Pro takes the gold for both single and multi-core CPU. Graphics-wise, however, there isn’t a difference – but the 13” does lead the way for thermal throttling. With both devices holding the much-anticipated M4 chip, you can expect their overall performance to be similar.
Magic Keyboard
Naturally, with the 13-inch iPad Pro being larger, so is its Magic Keyboard. For you, that means bigger keys and a larger trackpad – making it ideal for those who plan to use it for work on the go or significant amounts of typing. Though, the full-size keys also make the device heavier, which could impact its portability.
Camera
In reality, there should be no difference between the 11- and 13-inch iPad Pros front-facing cameras as the hardware is exactly the same. However, the landscape camera on the 13” device is placed slightly higher, making it better for video calls.
Spread the cost with Lease Loop
Ultimately, whichever device you choose will depend on your needs – the 11” device is definitely more portable and has a better battery life, but the 13” benefits from a slimmer build with a more user-friendly keyboard. Unsurprisingly, both come with a premium price tag – unless you lease.
